Teague's simple lines and the robustness of form lends itself to luxury. Africana explored the intersection between African-American design within the White design canon. Teague's hand-carved design in the tabletop harkens to African tribal carvings as permanence. Africana's stoutness implies the steadfastness and resilience of the African American experience as well as Teague's 20-year efforts to introduce black/brown perspectives into the American design industry. The leather cushion is hand-crafted by Chicago-based leather maker, Yohance Lacour and stamped in the Yoruba language and means "craft a black circle of economy" emphasizing the need for autonomy across the African diaspora. Teague marries digital fabrication technology with handcrafted methods to bring this atelier line to life.
